About our Training

“Your training was hands down the best I've ever attended.
It was productive, insightful, new, and interesting.
I'm really looking forward to next year (with my group).”

-- Group Leader, Agudas Achim Congregation, Alexandria, VA- June, 2008

Moving Traditions is committed to the high quality of each Rosh Hodesh: It's a Girl Thing! group.  Because qualified staff are an essential element in delivering effective youth programs, we require each group leader to earn certification at our two-day training.  To date, more than 500 adult group leaders and supervisors have participated in our Training Institute.

Once trained, group leaders are able to create a safe, fun, and stimulating environment in which serious issues are explored and girls feel empowered to reach their full potential.

The Training Institute enables group leaders and supervisors to increase their proficiency in:

  1. Group Facilitation – implementing the Rosh Hodesh: It's a Girl Thing! curriculum; managing group dynamics; using art, movement and other modalities for learning and group development
  2. Understanding Adolescent Girls – psycho-social development; examining teen pop culture
  3. Marketing and Recruitment – recruiting girls; starting and nurturing a successful group; enlisting the support of parents

The Training Institute includes three specialized modules that are designed to meet the specific needs of group leaders and supervisors.  These break out sessions focus on:

  • Managing Group Dynamics
  • Mastering the program’s Jewish Content
  • Resources for Supervisors

“This program offers girls at the edge of young adult life a vision of what is holy in them and their world, and the skills about how to stay whole. And it offers you, as leaders, an opportunity to ferry the next generation across the threshold to young adulthood, and in so doing, to renew the voice and spirit of youth within yourself.”
